Chinese New Year Mood

English New Year was a dream, Chinese New Year daydreaming
Tomorrow January 2008 will be gone, you are going to tear away January 2008. Are you going to look forward to the day where most people would be wearing RED and going from house to house, holding mandarin oranges in their hands? Next Wednesday 6th February 2008 will be Chinese New Year Eve, the day where family has reunion dinner. Following that, Chinese New Year day on the next day. Officially two days of Chinese New Year holidays -- you see red words on the calendar. The Chinese will celebrate Chinese New Year for 15 days. What is your New Year Mood? We just had New Year Eve and New Year on January, but now is Chinese New Year.

My Paper -- My Life, My Thoughts, My Say
Before I write about Chinese New Year Mood, here is where I get inspiration from this post today. Every morning when I opened the door for my children to go to school, I can see My Paper lying on the floor -- My Paper delivered to my door step. I want to thank My Paper for doing such a wonderful job. Over the period of months, I had seen Improvements to My Paper. From mere Chinese words, now they had added more -- English and Chinese news now! There are also Vocab section where certain difficult Chinese words are shown with Han Yu Pin Yin and meaning explain. This is by far the best paper I had ever come across. Why is it the best? As mentioned earlier, its 'friendliness' and 'easy-to-read' format, and the most important, delivered to the house and it's FREE. (I must write a post about Newspaper in Singapore... do we pay to read advertisement or must we pay to receive Singapore news? This I must write, if it is in my thoughts.)

This is what My Paper looks like on the front page. The picture below is what it looks like on the back page of My Paper today, on 31st January 2008.

Responsible Newspaper Boy
One paper, but lots of news delivered, free and at the doorstep. I must thank The Paper Delivery man as well, without him, My Paper would not be at my doorstep. I do not know if there is a change of newspaper delivery man. Previously, on certain days, My Paper was not delivered at all. On some days, they were 'threw' on the middle of the corridor. However, nowadays, it was punctual, everyday delivered and in its proper place, at the door.

Pick My Say
Lots of news read, lots of thoughts arise and lots of emotions stirred. However, I had chosen to write about this article about Chinese New Year, since Chinese New Year is just a week away.

I care for myself first before I can care for my family
Mood or no mood, everyday I had to complete my duties, fulfill all my responsibilities required of me. Mood or no mood, everybody has to live and life goes on even when it is so hard and everybody has their own set of problems and we can do nothing much as we are not the head of the household.

If you inherit wealth, you will never understand how people earn money
You may have lots of material comfort, you may have lots of places selling Chinese New Year decorations and Chinese New Year Plants and Flowers, but what is a real celebration, the real meaning of Chinese New Year? Is it telling us that Chinese New Year is a season to buy new things and throw the old? No we cannot do that. We need to reduce and recycle, save the earth! What is so special about Chinese New Year? Every special occasion is a season of buying! Hari Raya you have Pasar Malam. Deepavali, you have another Pasar Malam and now Chinese New Year, you also have Pasar Malam. If you think that only special occasion there is Pasar Malam, then you are wrong also. During the school holidays, you have Mid-year sale, year-end sale and you have Pasar Malam, Trade Fair or European Fun Fair. What can we do besides pay and pay, spent and spent in Singapore NOW?

Land For Cultural Performance, Land For Free Inspiration
I remember watching Free GeTai(歌台), Chinese Opera Show and Puppet show when I was young. Whether they were for the Ghost festival or whatever seasons, at least those were the days where you get to enjoy Free cultural shows, free real life arts, and that is real "Atmosphere" (qi fen) -- everybody get together, building a closer community.

Everything Is Money Talk, No Money No Talk
Every space in Singapore is so precious. Who can afford to give you free land for wastage? Every free land must be fully exploited and put into GOOD use. What is GOOD to the person who inherit wealth? Wealth and wealth and you want more wealth. You are on the top and you want to go higher and higher. You do not know the life of the poor. You do not know how your family members feel.

When The Day Come I Will Celebrate
With price hike and market bear appears, who can have the mood for celebration? Even if we 'celebrate', it is not a real celebration. I do not want to have two days of celebration or two hours of celebration. What are we celebrating? Celebrating for who? Celebrating for my mother who need to work so hard at her old age? Celebrating for those old folks who have no children to look after them? Celebrating people who are settling for their divorce or celebrating for people who are trying to make ends meet everyday, collecting dirty cans and old cartons?

Celebrate Our Money Use To Buy Expensive Shoes when You can wear Sandal on the beach?
Can you afford not to waste money on what is unnecessary and put more emphasize on what seems to make the family member happy? Can you afford to slower down your pace and lag behind others just to make your children less stress and not a TAXing life or a LEVYable life.

My Thoughts, My Say, Strictly Only Mine
Do you want to have Everyday "Chinese New Year Mood" or do you want to have "Chinese New Year Ambience" once a year? What I see is the latter case. This is my thoughts, my say. It might not apply to other people, but this is my diary, and this is my real thoughts, real feeling.
